Ferguson Grand Jury Given January Extension

The grand jury hearing evidence against the Ferguson police officer who shot Michael Brown received a 60-day extension to decide if charges will be filed.

Judge Carolyn Whittington granted the extension, but it does not necessarily mean the grand jury will need until January 7, 2015 to determine if Officer Darren Wilson will be indicted.

The grand jury was nearing the end of its four-month term when it received the Michael Brown case.

There are six white men, three white women, two black women, and one black man on the St. Louis County grand jury.

Members of the panel have heard testimony over the past few weeks about the August 9th shooting of Brown, an unarmed teenager who lived in Ferguson.

Weeks of protests locally and nationally followed the shooting after eyewitnesses say Officer Wilson continued firing at Brown even after the 17 year-old dropped to his knees and raised his arms in surrender.

Soul of the South’s Vickie Newton traveled to Ferguson, MO after the shooting happened. You can watch her reports here and here.
