Walmart Settles with Comedian Tracy Morgan

Walmart and Comedian Tracy Morgan have reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount in a 2014 fatal accident that left him seriously injured.

Last June a Walmart tractor-trailer rear-ended the limo bus Morgan was riding in on the New Jersey Turnpike. The collision killed Morgan’s friend and fellow comedian James McNair, whose family reached a settlement with the retail giant earlier this week. Comedian Ardley Fuqua and Morgan’s personal assistant Jeffrey Millea were also injured in the crash.

At the time of the accident, the Walmart truck was speeding, traveling about 20 mph over the speed limit. And, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, driver Kevin Roper was almost at his drive time limit.    Officials say Roper had been behind the wheel for more than 24 consecutive hours before the crash.

Walmart U.S. president Greg Foran said, “We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved.”

Morgan is still recovering from his injuries. He suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg. The comedian said, “Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably.”
