SSN-TV Takes 200 Students to View “Selma”

Students all around the country are seeing the Oscar-nominated film “Selma” at the invitation of civic-minded businesses and generous philanthropists. SSN-TV is also sponsoring a field trip to the theater for students to learn more about the historic 1965 march led by Dr. Martin Luther King from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. The initial march was marred by violence as demonstrators were beaten by police, but a subsequent effort was successful and set the stage for President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Voting Rights Act of 1965. President Barack Obama will travel to Selma on March 7th to observe the 50-year anniversary of the march.
